Job Summary

Martin is seeking a detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our team of professionals in our East Lansing office. As Sr. Accountant, you will be responsible for managing accounts payable and receivable, handling collections, and serving as a backup for payroll processing. The ideal candidate is highly organized, accurate, and comfortable balancing daily transaction work with direct communication to vendors, customers, and employees.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Process vendor invoices, purchase orders, and payments accurately and timely.
  • Manage vendor inquiries and resolve invoice discrepancies.
  • Generate customer invoices and statements; follow up on overdue accounts and perform collections.
  • Reconcile AP and AR sub-ledgers to the general ledger.
  • Assist with month-end close and related journal entries.
  • Serve as backup for payroll processing, including timekeeping, deductions, and compliance.
  • Maintain documentation and support audit requirements.
  • Collaborate with sales, procurement, HR, and finance teams to resolve issues.
  • Support reporting and contribute to process improvement initiatives.

Ideal Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience as an Accountant.
  • Experience with collections and customer/vendor communication.
  • Familiarity with payroll processes (backup/assisting capacity acceptable).
  • Proficient with accounting and payroll software (e.g., QuickBooks, Microsoft Dynamics, ADP, or similar).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills; able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • High integrity when handling confidential financial and payroll data.

Physical Requirements

Those activities associated with general office work including but not limited to sitting, walking, standing, talking, or hearing, for long periods of time.  Using hands to write, key, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Other activities include reaching, stooping, kneeling, crawling, crouching, pushing, pulling, and lifting
